A head-on view of 47 Laboratory's $25,000 Redbook CD transport, the PiTracer, mounted on double stack Rollerblocks on an Ultra Platform. Instead of moving a separated laser reader assembly that's connected by wires to conventional circuitry to read the CD, the PiTracer employs a custom, monolithic-construction Large Scale Integration chip which is embedded in a solid block of machined aluminum to do the job. This keeps parts count to a minimum, and the laser assembly as close to the chip as possible for better performance. Using a sophisticated location feedback system, the entire assembly "traces" the "pits" of the CD. As good as the PiTracer is - and it is certainly one of the very best in the world - Rollerblocks make it sound even better.
