We couldn't forget to thank the very friendly Richard Brown, who generously loaned us the use of his own Stellavox tape deck. Rich was very busy at the show, providing both tape and tape decks to several rooms for playback of quarter- and half-track tapes. You can get in touch with Rich at the new tape forum at Audio Asylum.
And what kind of tape were we playing on Rich's Stellavox? Well, thanks to Steve Hoffman, we were privileged to have nothing less than a 15 ips, 2-track, direct 1:1 copy (no Dolby) from the original master tapes of such classic songs as "Stardust" by Nat King Cole (1956), "Good Luck Charm" by Elvis Presley (1960), "Let It Be Me" by the Everly Brothers (1960), "Every Night" by Paul McCartney (1970), "What Kind of Fool Am I" by Sammy Davis Jr., "Love Potion #9" by the Searchers, and others. This was a very rare opportunity to hear these gems as they were, "in the rough" - before reverb and special effects were added - in other words, just about as close to the original music as mere mortals can hope to come. Those who weren't lucky enough to be with us in Denver can get a second chance to hear rarities like this in future Symposium rooms, such as the upcoming CES show in Las Vegas.
