Rocky Mountain Audio Fest 2004

The Eben X3 Loudspeaker from Denmark features a time-aligned, planar magnetic, short horn-loaded tweeter, mated with a 6 1/2" dynamic cone midrange and four 6 1/2" woofers. Small woofers are faster than large ones and the coherency of the X3 was evident, since the bass was able to "keep up" with the speed of the midrange units, allowing one to forget the machinery and concentrate on the music. These speakers are built with the famous Scandinavian passion for quality construction, weighing in at well over 100 pounds each!

Driving the X3s were Red Rock Audio's new Renaissance monoblock amplifiers, which provided impressive, solid-state-like bass power and authority with all the warmth, bloom and finesse for which tubed designs are valued. Both the X3 and the Renaissance were damped by Symposium platforms (Svelte Shelves for the X3s and Ultra Platforms with Fat Padz for the Renaissance). While either component is excellent by itself, the use of Symposium platforms allowed each to perform at their very best.
